Seasonal Aegean-Anatolian cooking
A neighbourhood kitchen on a side street in Stoke Newington, cooking at the same stove since 2014. We rewrite the menu each season around what our growers bring in, and keep the door open from the first pot of tea to the last glass of wine.
Fig. 01Sunday morning: breakfast for two at a garden table.
Fig. 02The dining room, just before dinner service.
Kiraz Kitchen opened in the spring of 2014 as an eight-table breakfast room. Kiraz is Turkish for cherry, and the name comes from the old cherry tree in the back garden. It is still there, and every June its fruit goes into our jam.
These days we open for lunch and dinner too, but the way we work hasn't changed. We buy from people we know, cook with a few good ingredients and take our time. The sourdough is mixed and baked here every morning.

Everything I put on a plate has an address. I won't cook with an olive oil until I know which trees it came from, or a cheese until I know which hills the sheep grazed on.

We came for Sunday breakfast and ended up wishing we could stay for dinner. I'm still thinking about the menemen, and our tea glasses were never empty for long.
The lamb shank was spot on, and our waiter really knew the wine list. It's now our favourite place for dinner in north London.
I don't know anywhere else that cooks artichokes with this much care. Sensible portions, and the service is calm and friendly.
We booked a table for ten for my mum's birthday. They'd thought of everything, and a candle turned up on her pudding without us having to ask.
Proper coffee and homemade cakes. On a weekday afternoon with a book, it's the quietest corner in the neighbourhood.
