In our small studio in İzmir, clay turns on the wheel and linen is cut by hand at the bench. Each piece is made in a batch of forty at most, without hurrying, and then sent on to wherever you are.

A Saturday in Urla

We shot Series 14 at our friend Selin's stone house in Urla, a small town on the coast west of İzmir. Light was coming through the linen curtains while breakfast was laid out, so we asked no one to pose and photographed the house as it was.

For this series we took our colours from the house itself: the white of fresh limewash, the sand of old stone, the faded rose of a window frame.

How we make

It starts with clay and ends in paper.

    Choosing materials in person

    Our clay comes from a pit in Menemen, just north of İzmir, and our linen from a family in Denizli who have been weaving for three generations. We never order a batch before we’ve had it in our hands.

  2. 02

    Shaped on the wheel and at the bench

    Each cup is thrown on the wheel, and each garment is cut by hand from a paper pattern. That is why no two pieces ever turn out exactly alike.

  3. 03

    Kiln, wash, patience

    Our ceramics are fired twice, at 1240 °C. Linen pieces are stone-washed after sewing, so they won’t shrink the first time you wash them.

  4. 04

    Plastic-free packing

    Your order is wrapped in recycled paper, tied with cotton string and packed to travel well. Inside the box you’ll find a short note telling you who made your piece.
